Reconstitution guide

A laboratory reference on how to reconstitute peptides supplied as lyophilised powder. This is a handling procedure for research work and is not dosing guidance.

Procedure

  1. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening.
  2. Wipe the stopper of both the compound vial and the bacteriostatic water with an alcohol swab.
  3. Draw the required volume of bacteriostatic water into a sterile syringe.
  4. Insert the needle through the stopper and direct the stream down the inner glass wall of the vial — never straight onto the powder, which causes foaming and can damage the peptide.
  5. Allow the compound to dissolve fully. Swirl gently or roll between the palms. Do not shake.
  6. Label with compound, concentration and date. Store reconstituted material at 2–8 °C, protected from light.

Concentration — the calculation

Researchers ask us how to reconstitute peptides more than any other question, and the arithmetic is the part that trips people up. Concentration is simply the mass in the vial divided by the volume of diluent added. A peptide calculator does nothing more than this.
